Engine Maintenance Tips

The most important maintenance tip is to give your vehicle regular checkups. Ideally, a vehicle should be inspected four times a year: once every quarter. This is especially important when the season changes from summer to autumn and winter. Regular oil changes, air filter replacements, spark plug and timing belt replacements, and coolant checks should also be done regularly.

The oil is an important factor in the lubrication for the engine. The engine should run for about thirty seconds in warm weather, and a few minutes in cold weather, to make sure the oil is able to circulate through the engine. Driving too soon after starting puts strain on the engine until the oil is able to circulate.

Even if you are able to do these types of small maintenance rituals yourself, it's recommended at least once a year having a mechanic give it a hands-on check-over. This should be more than just a visual inspection, but a thorough and in-depth examination. The best way to keep a long-lasting engine is consistent and continual maintenance. Be sure to keep it clean as well. Not only does it keep the engine looking good, but by keeping it free of grease, dust, dirt, and other filth, it will perform better.
